State of Web Design: The Fonts, Colours and Themes Real Sites Use

By · Updated · 4 min read

The short answer

Across 254 public websites measured by Livery (as of 2026-10-26), Inter is the most used typeface (11.4% of sites), blue is the most common accent family (28%), and 62.6% use a light theme against 37.4% dark. The numbers below update daily as people add sites to the library.

Which fonts do websites use most?

Inter leads, on 29 of 254 sites. Geist follows with 13, then Outfit with 12. Another 13 sites (5.1%) set their headings in a system font stack instead of a named typeface.

The typeface counted is each site's display face: the family Livery measured on its headings. Build tools rename fonts (Next.js writes Inter as __Inter_d65c78), so spellings of one family are counted together.

What accent colours are most common?

Grouped by hue, blue accents are the most common (71 sites, 28%). The accent is the colour each kit's palette gives the accent role, usually the colour of primary buttons and links.

Are dark websites more common than light ones?

Light themes still lead: 159 sites (62.6%) are light by default and 95 (37.4%) are dark. The theme counted is the one a first-time visitor sees, measured from the page background.

Which icon sets do websites use?

Of the 149 sites where Livery could identify the icon set, Lucide is the most common (109). Many sites draw their own icons or use inline SVGs that match no public set; those are not counted.

How this data was measured

Every number comes from a design kit in Livery's public library. To build a kit, Livery opens the page in a real browser at desktop, tablet and phone widths and reads the computed styles of what is on screen: colours by role, the type scale and families, spacing, radii, icons and motion. No AI model guesses any of it.

  • The sample is every public kit, one count per kit: the sites people chose to measure, which leans towards startups, developer tools and portfolios rather than the whole web.
  • Hidden and private kits are excluded. Kits built from several pages of one site count once.
  • The page rebuilds daily. Last updated 2026-10-26.
